ABSTRACT

Abstract Liupan Mountains are an important region in China in the context of forest cover and vegetation due to huge afforestation and plantation practices, which brought changes in soil physio-chemical properties, soil stocks, and soil stoichiometries are rarely been understood. The study aims to explore the distribution of soil nutrients at 1-m soil depth in the plantation forest region. The soil samples at five depth increments (0-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-80, and 80-100 cm) were collected and analyzed for different soil physio-chemical characteristics. The results showed a significant variation in soil bulk density (BD), soil porosity, pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), and electric conductivity (EC) values. More soil BD (1.41 g cm-3) and pH (6.97) were noticed in the deep soil layer (80-100 cm), while the highest values of porosity (60.6%), EC (0.09 mS cm-1), and CEC (32.9 c mol kg-1) were reflected in the uppermost soil layer (0-20 cm). Similarly, the highest contents of soil organic carbon (SOC), total phosphorus (TP), available phosphorus (AP), total nitrogen (TN), and available potassium (AK) were calculated in the surface soil layer (0-20 cm). With increasing soil depth increment a decreasing trend in the SOC and other nutrient concentration were found, whereas the soil total potassium (TK) produced a negative correlation with soil layer depth. The entire results produced the distribution of SOCs and TNs (stocks) at various soil depths in forestland patterns were 020cm > 2040cm > 4060cm 6080cm 80100 cm. Furthermore, the stoichiometric ratios of C, N, and P, the C/P, and N/P ratios showed maximum values (66.49 and 5.46) in 0-20 cm and lowest values (23.78 and 1.91) in 80-100 cm soil layer depth. Though the C/N ratio was statistically similar across the whole soil profile (0-100 cm). These results highlighted that the soil depth increments might largely be attributed to fluctuations in soil physio-chemical properties, soil stocks, and soil stoichiometries. Further study is needed to draw more conclusions on nutrient dynamics, soil stocks, and soil stoichiometry in these forests.

ABSTRACT

Abstract We evaluated the microbial composition of water kefir grains and beverage overthe course of one year to determine whether the number and type of microorganisms changedover the time. Bacteria and yeast colonies with different morphologies were isolated fromwater kefir and their antimicrobial activity was evaluated against Paenibacillus larvae andAscosphaera apis. A chemical characterization of kefir was also carried out. Our results con-firmed that bacteria and yeasts were more numerous in kefir grains compared with those in thebeverage. The counts of microorganisms declined, although an important microbial community was still present in kefir after the long storage period. Eleven strains which inhibited bee pathogens were isolated from kefir. Genotypic results demonstrated that these isolates included Lentilactobacillus hilgardii, Lentilactobacillus buchneri and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Thus, water kefir may be an innovative source of potential probiotic strains for bee nutrition in order to control honeybee diseases.

ABSTRACT

The current study contributes to a better knowledge of the FCZ's characteristics and bioactivity. The ADMET properties have been calculated and the results have been illustrated; as a result, it has become quite popular for virtual pharmaceutical analysis. This research aims to examine FCZ’s optimized structure and properties by analyzing various computational calculations. Bond length, Bond angle, Mulliken charges have been analyzed for the studies. The experimental geometrical parameters and theoretical data were compared with ADME parameters, biomarker properties, pH value, drug like nature, Marvin sketch, Swiss ADME to quantify molecular descriptors just as to survey atomic elements. ADMET properties introduce the influence of the drug levels and its kinetics with the tissues of the body. It also explains about the metabolism, toxicity of the drugs when introduced to the system. The analysis on pharmacokinetic properties has helped a lot in the drug development for further studies. The target prediction of FCZ has been studied along with the docking study. Docking study is an important program in order to study about the binding of the small ligand into a receptor like proteins. This method is very useful in drug discovery which provides insights into various studies. This will help in further development of the drugs which will finally help the society in large scale. FCZ helps pharmaceutical industry in developing the drugs to treat chronic disease when combined with other molecules. Hence the present study is really helpful in drug designing and in the development of new drugs.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has many clinical applications in dentistry; the main drawback is the long setting. The main objective is to investigate and compare the chemical effect of using two commercially available hyaluronic acid hydrogels (HA) instead of distilled water for mixing MTA as an accelerant of setting time. Materials and method: Test materials were divided into three groups; Group 1: (control) mixing MTA with distilled water supplied by the manufacturer; Group 2: mixing MTA with a hybrid cooperative complex of high and low molecular weight HA (Profhilo®); Group 3: mixing MTA with High molecular weight / non-cross-linked HA (Jalupro®). Mixing time, and setting time (initial and final) were determined, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Field emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were performed. Results: mixing time, initial, and final setting time for (MTA + HA) groups were significantly different and lower in comparison to the control group (p < 0.05). This study revealed higher expression of calcium silicate hydrate and calcium hydroxide expression with higher Ca release in the MTA + HA group than the control group. Conclusion: commercially available HA demonstrated better chemical properties when used as a mixing medium for MTA. The Mixing and setting time for MTA + HA group were significantly shorter than those of the control group were. Thus, commercially available HA can be used as a mixing medium for MTA.

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of ultrasonic activation (UA) on the setting time and flow of four endodontic sealers: AH Plus (AH), Sealer Plus (SP), MTA Fillapex (MTAF), and BioRoot RCS (BIO). Properties were evaluated as required by ANSI/ADA Specification N° 57 (2008); only the size of the specimens was modified. UA was applied using a smooth tapered ultrasonic tip coupled to a piezoelectric ultrasonic device (30% power) on the freshly mixed materials in two cycles of 20 seconds. The results were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests, followed by the Tukey and Dunn posthoc tests, respectively, depending on the normality of the data. The shortest setting times, initial and final, were, 115 (BIO/UA) and 148.6 (BIO/UA) min, whereas the longest were 1215 (AH) and 1928 (AH) min. The MTAF sealer did not set throughout the experimental period (2880 minutes). Significant differences were observed between BIO and MTAF and the other sealers, with or without UA, both in the initial and final setting time (P < 0.05). UA did not change the initial setting times; however, it reduced the final setting of BIO (P < 0.05). The highest and lowest flow values observed were 25.52 mm (AH/UA) and 18.66 mm (BIO/UA), respectively. The AH sealer, regardless of UA, exhibited higher flow values compared to the other sealers (P < 0.05), except for the MTAF/UA group, which was the only sealer in which UA promoted a significant flow increase (P < 0.05). Under the conditions of the study, it can be concluded that the BIO, under UA, presented the lowest setting time; however, it exhibited the lowest flow values. The MTAF sealer did not reach its final setting. Moreover, the SP groups exhibited intermediate results in all analyses. In summary, only the final setting time of the BIO group and the flow values of the MTAF group were influenced by UA.

ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: Phoenix dactylifera, commonly known as date or date palm, is a flowering plant species in the palm family Arecaceae, cultivated for its edible sweet fruit called dates. Dates are high in dietary fibre and antioxidant compounds, known for preventing cancer and cardiovascular diseases. This research studied the chemical properties, antioxidant activities, and total phenolic content of fermented date vinegars from Phoenix dactylifera L. fruits, which had three cultivars - Barhi, Siam S1, and KL1. Methods: The first step was making date wines by using Saccharomyces cerevisiae (0.75% v/v of date juice content) to produce alcohol; the second step was making date vinegars by using Acetobacter pasteurianus (10% v/v of inoculum). Thereafter, the wines and vinegars were analysed for their chemical properties [high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)], antioxidant activities [2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay], and total phenolic content (folin ciocalteu method). Results: Results showed that the highest alcohol content was 9.35% (v/v) in Siam S1 wine. The highest acetic acid was 7% (v/v) in Siam S1 vinegar. From the phytochemical analysis of vinegars, the highest antioxidant activity was found to be 24.96 mg/mL in Siam S1 vinegar, while the highest total phenolic content was found to be 208.35 mg GAE/L in KL1 vinegar. Conclusion: This novel research showed that the Siam S1 date had the highest acetic acid and antioxidant activity in vinegar. Thus, this cultivar could be processed to make new, healthy products that can further lead to income generation for the people in Thailand.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess the effect of natural antioxidants on storage time, physical and chemical properties of egg. A total of 200 laying ISA brown birds were distributed into eight dietary groups, each dietary group with 25 birds (5 birds per replicate). They were fed with roselle, black pepper, green tea, combine (roselle + black pepper + green tea) at 0.5 g/kg and 1.0 g/kg in basal diet respectively and a control feed. At the end of eight (8) weeks of feeding trial, twelve eggs were collected from each dietary group (six eggs per dietary group were analyzed for the internal and external properties while the remaining six were stored). Data collected include; Egg shape index, egg weight, shell thickness, membrane weight, yolk index, haugh unit, meat and blood spot, yolk colour, lipid profile, lipid peroxidation and proximate analysis. Data generated were subjected to Analysis of variance using the General Linear Model for factorial within a completely randomized design. The natural antioxidants significantly (P<0.05) improves the proximate composition of the poultry eggs. Both Green tea and Black pepper have significant effect (P<0.05) on the yolk percentage. Black pepper increases (P<0.05) the Haugh unit while it shows to be lower (P>0.05) in the combination of the antioxidants. The inclusion levels of the natural antioxidants on the internal and external quality of egg reveals that there were no significant (P>0.05) differences in the two inclusion level of 0.5 g/kg and 1.0 g/kg of feed but they have numerically higher values in the external parameters and internal parameters. Eggs stored for 4 weeks had the lowest value (P>0.05) for the proximate and lipid profiles, though there are no significant (P>0.05) differences in their values. The fresh eggs show high moisture content (P<0.05) but the value for nitrogen free extract is low (P>0.05) in the fresh eggs. The natural antioxidants improved significantly (P<0.05) the proximate composition of the poultry eggs, with the green tea having the highest value (P<0.05) for Moisture contents and CP, black pepper the highest (P<0.05) for CP Based on the result obtained from this study, the natural antioxidants (black pepper, green tea and roselle) in layers diet shows significant effects on the physical qualities of egg and the yolk color was also preferred with the inclusion of the natural antioxidants compared to the control. The chemical properties also deteriorate with the storage time. Natural antioxidants are hereby recommended for better and improved chemical qualities of eggs.

ABSTRACT

In Bangladesh conditions, the end of the Boro season begins floods and natural calamities and loses more rice in farmer's fields. If we can select early maturity genotypes for the Boro season, we can harvest our rice from the farmer's field before flooding or any other natural calamities. The study attempted to determine the short duration and high yielding rice genotype for Boro season in Bangladesh amongst the 13 Boro rice F6 lines by contrast with two (2) test varieties. Keeping in view this idea, the output of the genotypes studied, the relationship between different morpho-physio-chemical and yield-contributing characteristics between all the genotypes were investigated there under field and laboratory conditions. Among these 15 lines, G11 line showed better in the most yield contributing parameters. It is therefore concluded that the G11 genotype will be considered an appropriate line for the Boro season in Bangladesh.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of the inoculation of potassium-solubilizing bacteria on the rhizosphere soil microenvironment of Paris polyphylla var. yunnanensis. MethodThe effects of different potassium-solubilizing bacteria on the physical and chemical properties, microbial community structure, and soil enzyme activity in the rhizosphere soil of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis were investigated by pot planting at room temperature. The correlation of various indexes was analyzed. ResultThe inoculation with different potassium-solubilizing bacteria could significantly affect the physical and chemical properties of rhizosphere soil of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis. The mass fractions of available nitrogen, available phosphorus, and available potassium were 24.5-90.5 mg·kg-1, 2.53-25.9 mg·kg-1, and 132-312 mg·kg-1, respectively, and the soil pH was 7.08-7.75, which were in line with the optimal ranges of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis planting. The inoculation of different potassium-solubilizing bacteria could affect the number of bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi in rhizosphere soil to varying degrees. The transformation of soil from "fungal type" to "bacterial type" marks the improvement of soil fertility. It also affected the enzyme activity of rhizosphere soil, and the activities of neutral phosphatase, protease, and polyphenol oxidase showed an increasing trend. The correlation analysis showed that the number of bacteria was negatively correlated with the number of fungi (r=-0.856, P<0.01), positively correlated with the number of actinomycetes, the content of available nitrogen and available potassium, and negatively correlated with soil pH. ConclusionThe inoculation of potassium-solubilizing bacteria can effectively improve the content of available potassium, available nitrogen, available phosphorus, and other nutrients in the rhizosphere soil of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis, improve soil fertility, alleviate the continuous cropping obstacles of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis, and lay a theoretical foundation for the green and sustainable development of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Solubility is a property related to the dissocia- tion of the constituents of the material by the action of contact with the surrounding liquid, for this reason, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the hydration during the scanning in the microtomography on the volumetric alteration of the MTA HP. Methods: Twenty acrylic teeth upper incisor with retrograde cavity were utilized. The MTA HP cement was inserted into the cavity using a Paiva condensor. The specimens were visually inspected with a 5x magnifying glass to ensure they did not remain void or gaps. The specimens were divided into 2 groups (n=10). The teeth were scanned shortly after handling the MTA. For the group with water immersion, hydrated Eppendorf was kept with 1mL the water during the scanning and the other group, the teeth were scanning without water. In the two groups the teeth were immersed into water during 7 days. Next the teeth were newly scanned in the Micro-CT using the same parameters and conditions of each group. Reconstruction of images by the Nrecon software and the solubility volume determined by the CTan, analyzing the volumetric change. Results: The group of specimens scanned immersed into the water presented higher volumetric change with statistically significant differences in relation the group scanned without immersion. The scanning of the specimen immersed in water favors the greater volumetric loss of the material. Conclusion: Studies to evaluate volumetric change of calcium silicate cements should be made immersed in wate

ABSTRACT: The glass ionomer cements (GICs) is a generic name given to a group of materials widely used in clinical dentistry which if used after the specified expiration date, material properties may be affected. to evaluate the Vick ers microhardness, surface morphology and the energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), of GICs with different expiration dates that were stored at room temperature. specimens of highly viscous glass ionomer cement (HVGIC) (Ketac Cem and Ketac Molar) and resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) (Vitrebond) with different expiration dates (current, close to their expiration and expired) were prepared for Vickers microhardness test and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) with EDX, measuring 5 mm in diameter and 2 mm length, per the manufacturer's instructions, in standard cylindrical teflon molds. For the comparison of obtained values, the ANOVA test was used, while Tukey test was used for the multiple comparisons. In all the GICs used, the microhardness decreased as the expiration date approached, finding a significant statistical differen ce (P<0.05) in Ketac Molar and Vitrebond. SEM sample analysis revealed similar cohesive cracks in all tested materials. The EDX analysis revealed the presence of the elements F, Al and Si in all GICs and Ca only in Ketac Molar and Ketac Cem. The elements were found in a higher atomic percentage in the GICs with an current date and in a lower percentage in those with an expired date. HVGIC and RMGIC with an expiration date finish and that were stored at room temperature, suffer significant physical and chemical changes, which could put doubts its clinical effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Starch samples from eight legumes cultivars instar of one variety of Vigna unguiculata L. (Cowpea), one variety of Vigna subterrenea V. (Bambara groundnut) and six varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris L. (Common bean), grown in Cameroon were isolated, and their physicochemical and pasting properties were evaluated. The objectives of the study were to investigate the starch properties and processing characteristics of different bean varieties, and to establish the basic foundation of improving the functionality of beans and their starch grown in the region. The result revealed significant differences amongst the properties of the starches. The swelling power of the legume starch isolates put them in the category of highly restricted-swelling starch. This characteristic is desirable for the manufacture of value-added products such as noodles and composite blends with cereals. The pasting properties were determined using a rapid visco analyzer, and various legumes bean starches exhibited different pasting profiles. The high breakdown viscosity (BV) was founded for Cowpea and Bambara groundnut and confirmed their low. ability to resist heat and shear stress when compared to Common bean varieties studies. The factors which influence the pasting characteristics resulting to decrease in peak viscosity (PV), trough viscosity (TV) and final viscosity (FV) of starch are attributed to the interaction of starch with the protein, fat, etc. which depended to their variety.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the soil physical and chemical properties, microorganisms, and metabolites in different culture environments of Gastrodia elata, so as to provide scientific basis for subsequent cultivation of G. elata in multiple environments. Method:The tubersphere soil of G. elata cultured in different environments was collected for analyzing the soil nutrients, microbial numbers, and metabolite differences using the agrochemical method, plate-count method, and gas chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS)-based non-targeted metabonomic approach. Result:The analysis of soil physical and chemical properties revealed the highest soil moisture, pH, available potassium, and available phosphorus in the spinney and the highest electrical conductivity, total nitrogen, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, and organic matter in the pinewood. As demonstrated by the quantitative analysis of soil microorganisms, the cultivable microorganisms were bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi, with the bacterial population and total microbial biomass in the spinney and the number of fungi and actinomycetes in the barren slope detected to be the largest. The ratio of bacteria to fungi (B/F value) in the pinewood was the highest, while that in the barren slope was the lowest. The results of metabonomic research demonstrated that the compositions and quantities of soil metabolites in the spinney (Z group), pinewood (S group), and barren slope (HD group) varied. Through comparisons between S and Z groups, between HD and Z groups, as well as between HD and S groups by orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), 18, 35, and 24 differential metabolites were separately screened out, and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis yielded 5, 9, and 13 metabolic pathways. There existed a significant causal relationship of the soil physical and chemical properties and microbial numbers with the metabolites. Conclusion:The soil physical and chemical properties, microbial numbers, and metabolite changes differed significantly in different culture environments of G. elata, which were sorted by the suitability in a descending order as follows: spinney > pinewood >barren slope. The soil physical and chemical properties and microbial numbers are the crucial factors driving changes in soil metabolites, suggesting that regulating the soil physical and chemical characteristics and microbial characteristics in the culture environment is an important mechanism for maintaining the G. elata-soil-microbial symbiotic system.

ABSTRACT

The chemical properties of characteristic components are significant to the manufacturing quality control of big brand traditional Chinese medicine. In this study, the Huangjing Zanyu Capsules were used as the research carrier to determine the content of five characteristic components including icraiin, emodin, schisandrin A, 2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-glucoside, and osthole simultaneously by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The results showed that the chemical properties of five cha-racteristic components had a good linear relationship(r>0.999 9) within the quantitative range; the relative standard deviations(RSD) was 0.11%-2.0% and 0.25%-2.8% respectively for intra-day and inter-day precision; the RSD of repeatability was 1.8%-2.6%; the RSD of stability within 48 hours was 0.19%-2.8%, and the average recovery rate was 95.52%-100.1%, all meeting the requirements of pharmaceutical quantitative analysis. Additionally, the interval estimation method was used to directly reflect the distribution of samples with abnormal chemical properties of characteristic components, and the results showed ten samples were detected beyound the 95% control line of confidence level. Multivariate statistical process control(MSPC) method was used to monitor the abnormal samples of Huangjing Zanyu Capsules collectively, and the results showed that two samples were beyond the 95% control line of Hotelling's T~2 and three samples beyond the 95% control line of squared prediction error(SPE), indicating consistent quality control of Huangjing Zanyu Capsules. In conclusion, the proposed method is not only accurate and efficient but also a compensation for the traditional single-component quality control method, providing a scientific basis for the quality control in manufacturing process of Huangjing Zanyu Capsules. Furthermore, it could also serve as a reference method for the quality control in manufacturing big brand traditional Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This study aimed to assess the physicochemical properties of a repair material in the Brazilian market, BioMTA, in comparison to other two materials currently in use (Biodentine and MTA Angelus). The initial setting time was evaluated using Gillmore needle. The pH was measured with a pH-meter after 24 h, 3, 7, 14 and 21 days. The radiopacity was determined using the equivalence in millimeters of aluminum (mm Al) from digitized occlusal radiographs. Solubility was determined after immersion in water for 7 days. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (a=0.05). The BioMTA initial setting time (5.2 min) was lower than the other materials (p<0.05). All materials showed an alkaline pH at 21 days. At 24 h, BioMTA was the most alkaline material (p<0.05); and at 3, 7, 14 and 21 days there was no difference between BioMTA and Biodentine (p>0.05), both being more alkaline than MTA Angelus (p<0.05). The radiopacity of BioMTA (4.2 mm Al) was significantly higher compared to Biodentine (p<0.05) and lower than MTA Angelus (p<0.05). The solubility of the materials was -4.2%, -1.6% and 4.1% for BioMTA, MTA Angelus and Biodentine, respectively, with a significant difference between them (p<0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that BioMTA displayed a shorter setting time, an alkaline pH, a higher radiopacity, and a gain in mass.

ABSTRACT

@#Reducing the adhesion of microorganisms and the formation of biofilms on implant surfaces can prevent peri-implant inflammation and optimize the long-term prognosis of implanted dentures. To provide theoretical support for the development of new materials or the modification of existing materials and the improvement of the success rate of implant repair, a literature review was conducted, which shows that the factors influencing bacterial adhesion on dental implant surfaces included the type of implant material, material roughness, nonspecific physical and chemical properties, the type of antibacterial coating, the components of the acquired membrane on the implant surface, the structure of the bacterial cell wall, etc. The current research direction of implant materials aims to reduce bacterial adhesion and promote bone bonding. However, there is no consensus on the physical and chemical properties of implants that meet this requirement. At present, the development trend in implant materials is guided by research of the “core microbiome” of peri-implant inflammation, based on study of the factors related to the adhesion of pathogenic microorganisms to the implant surface, which is organically combined with a variety of modification methods to change the surface-related properties of the implant materials and even to endow the implant with antibacterial properties to reduce or inhibit the adhesion of pathogenic bacteria to the implant.
